Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef to Debut in Northern KY Kroger Stores
April 23, 2022. -Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef (KCGB) recently celebrated its fourth year of business and this week, added 16 new locations in Northern Kentucky Kroger stores. This move added availability of local beef to consumers just in time for the grilling season. This fresh and natural (no artificial ingredients, minimally processed) 80/20 ground beef is provided by Kentucky farm families who share a commitment to animal care and the environment.
Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef is currently available in 166 Kroger, 8 JayC food stores, and several foodservice outlets. Many entities across the state have worked hard to bring a local beef option directly to consumers through a large, readily available retail chain. The ground beef is sourced, processed and packaged in Kentucky and readily available at Kroger stores in 4 states including Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Illinois. To date, KCGB has impacted 257 farm families in 70 counties with total farm gate sales over $3.2 million.
“We recently celebrated National Agriculture Week in Kentucky, it only seems fitting we celebrate the expansion of Kentucky beef products in Kroger stores in Northern Kentucky,” Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles said. “Being the largest beef cattle producer east of the Mississippi, Kentucky has a reputation to maintain. The fine men and women of the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association are the best example of people doing something to their finest abilities. We are excited the Kentucky Proud name is going on these packages so consumers can truly learn the quality of Kentucky beef.”

Local Foodie Named 2021 Derby Burger Champion
March 31, 2021. Louisville, KY. – Brian Capps of Louisville, KY, has been crowned the 2021 Derby Burger Champion in the 10th Annual
Derby Burger Challenge, sponsored by Kentucky Beef Council and coordinated by the Kentucky Derby Festival. Capps’ recipe for his “Bourbon Blueberry & Brie Bacon Cheeseburger” was selected as the overall winner after two rounds of online voting.
Capps burger with 100% Kentucky Cattlemen’s ground beef is packed with flavor. The patty is topped with brie, thick-cut bacon, a blueberry bourbon sauce and arugula all on a brioche bun. This is Capps first time competing in the annual burger competition. Inspiration for his winning recipe came from a grilled cheese sandwich.
“I make my wife a blueberry and brie grilled cheese, which is her favorite thing in the world. She asked me to turn it into a burger and submit it for the challenge. So, I made the burger,” said Capps.
The Festival received dozens of submissions for the annual competition. Due to restrictions surrounding COVID-19, the 2021 competition was held completely online, instead of hosting an in-person cook-off. Over the last few weeks, more than 11,000 beef lovers have voted online to help pick the Top 8 semi-finalists, Top 4 finalists and the winning burger.
Capps’ winning burger recipe will be featured inside Louisville-area Kroger stores from April 21st through Derby weekend. Recipe cards will be available, as well as a showcase of ingredients for shoppers to purchase to make their own Derby Burgers.
Burger fans also have a chance to try the 2021 Derby Burger. Capps’ winning burger recipe will be a featured menu item at 80/20 @ Kaelin’s from April 21st until May 2nd. To make a reservation or order online, visit www.8020atkaelins.com or call (502) 200-8020.
Capps also receives a 2021 Kentucky Derby Festival Official Poster, as well as a $100 gift certificate to Kroger and a grilling package, including a grill, from Kentucky Beef Council and a local brewery tour for two. Plus, the winning recipe will be promoted on Kentucky Derby Festival and Kentucky Beef Council websites and social media channels.
Other finalists this year included Charli McIlvain of Lexington with the Hall’s Original Beer Cheese “Dirty” Burger, Dallas McGarity of Louisville with the Double Smashburger on Brioche Bun with Tasty Pickles and Timothy Armistead of Louisville with the Elote (Mexican Corn) Burger.

Local Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef Hits $1 Million in Total Farm Gate Sales
Lexington, KY, December 16, 2019 - Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef recently marked a huge milestone for Kentucky farmers by hitting $1 million in total farm gate sales. This fresh and natural (no artificial ingredients, minimally processed) 80/20 ground beef is provided by Kentucky farm families who share a commitment to animal care and the environment. From farm to table, Kentucky cattlemen from 111 farms in 44 counties have provided this quality, local product and Beef Solutions is proud to have sold over 587,000 pounds of local ground beef.
Supporting local cattle farmers is important as they put money back into our local economies. This product has given many farmers the opportunity to retain their cattle in Kentucky using a new marketing channel to provide a quality, local product to Kentucky consumers. Many entities across the state have worked hard to bring a local beef option directly to consumers. The ground beef is sourced, processed and packaged in Kentucky and readily available at Kroger stores in Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Tennessee, Kentucky schools, the KFC Yum Center and the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.
“Beef Solutions is proud to work with Kentucky cattle producers and give them a marketing alternative for their cows. It is a win-win for producers and consumers in Kentucky” stated Jeff Pettit, Beef Solutions Chairman.
Beef Solutions was formed to provide a pathway for Kentucky’s cattle farmers to sell a locally produced and marketed ground beef, guiding the product from the Kentucky farm to the Kentucky consumer. For more information on Beef Solutions visit www.beefsolutionsllc.com or to learn more about Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef visit www.kentuckycattlemensbeef.com. Special thanks to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Governor’s Office of Ag Policy for their support of this project.
