After spending 28 years in the banking industry, Bob Luckhardt needed a change of scenery. He always loved the outdoors and spending time in nature so he bought Luckhardt Farms in 2000. Now 23 years later, Luckhardt Farms is home to 80 head of cattle and over 100 acres of pasture. Bob and his wife Mary are focused on raising Angus replacement heifers.
We are stewards of the property."
To Bob, farming isn’t just a job, it's a lifestyle. “We are stewards of the property” he says. Bob takes pride in his Angus cattle that are sold into the KY Cattlemen's Ground Beef program. He has been selling his cull animals into the program since 2018 and encourages consumers to eat local when they can. Bob enjoys raising beef cattle because of the challenges that come with it. One of his favorite seasons is fall when calves are being born. Bob and Mary used to spend their falls camping out in a trailer to be closer to the calves. This sure made for some special memories!
It has been an unusual calving season, Bob had three sets of twins. The first two sets were premature, but the third set was healthy as can be! Unfortunately, the mother only took one calf. Bob gave the other calf to a local 4Her, Levi. This calf, LJ, will be Levi’s 4H project this year.
Bob is proud to offer consumers a locally raised product. He works hard to produce delicious Angus beef and is happy to share his product with consumers.
Luckhardt farms is much more than just cattle, many family memories are held here. Nestled in the woods is a cabin the family built together. This cabin served as a community hangout when Bob’s children were in highschool. Now that his children are grown, the grandchildren have found their own place on the farm. The barn pictured below has beautiful artwork completed by Bob’s 9 grandchildren. Each picture represents something on the farm, but the four leaf clover represents the Luckhardt family. The stem symbolizes unity, the heart represents the love between Bob and Mary, each of the four leaves represent Bob’s 4 children, and each grandchild has their handprints on the clover.
Luckhardt farms is much more than just cattle. Luckhardt farms is a place of unity for each member of the family. Bob is proud of the land he’s tended too and holds each memory in a special place in his heart.
